- A life sentence in prison usually means just that, but not
- so in the National Football League. That's fortunate for
- ex-Washington Redskins defensive end Dexter Manley, who was
- reinstated last week by N.F.L. commissioner Paul Tagliabue just a
- year after his "lifetime" suspension for drug abuse. The former
- Pro Bowler may play as long as he continues going to support
- groups for his drug problem. But he won't be sacking
- quarterbacks for the Redskins, because the team dropped him from
- the roster. Now he's headed for the Phoenix Cardinals. Says
- Manley, 31: "I have joy in my heart because I have the
- opportunity to play football again."
