  7.     A life sentence in prison usually means just that, but not
  8. so in the National Football League. That's fortunate for
  9. ex-Washington Redskins defensive end Dexter Manley, who was
  10. reinstated last week by N.F.L. commissioner Paul Tagliabue just a
  11. year after his "lifetime" suspension for drug abuse. The former
  12. Pro Bowler may play as long as he continues going to support
  13. groups for his drug problem. But he won't be sacking
  14. quarterbacks for the Redskins, because the team dropped him from
  15. the roster. Now he's headed for the Phoenix Cardinals. Says
  16. Manley, 31: "I have joy in my heart because I have the
  17. opportunity to play football again."
